We’ve been around for 530 million years – in human definition of time.
In our time-keeping, we are in the year Orb 2 Crus 1 Dig 4 Pars 4 An 15,312 … or year 312 in colloquial use.
- Orb: galactic year – yes the Sun has only gone around the centre of the Milky Way twice (and a bit) since we’re around. Time-keeping on astronomical scales has been a bit wonky though
- Crus: we divide the orb into 8 crus … most of us have 8 legs!
- Dig: we further subdivide the crus into 8 pes … most of us have 8 claws on out feet!
- Pars: one more subdivison into eights to make it manageable.
- An: and then we add the number of years since the last new pars.
